Innovation in the
learning process -
exploring
opportunities
...
We all know that innovation goes way beyond technology and state-of-the-art equipment in the classroom. When thinking about innovating the learning process, we should aim at revisiting our status quo and our beliefs, and start questioning long-imposed processes and ideas. In this talk, participants will be invited to revisit what they have leaned about teaching in pandemic times, how they have been shaping their students’ learning experiences, and will be looking at alternative ways to rethink what really matters in the learning process.
10:15 to 12:00
Courses will run throughout the conference and you can choose one of the topics to follow for the three days

Essential topics for educational leadership
This course aims to address the essential knowledge and competencies one needs to become an effective educational leader. The course mediator will draw on readings in the field and on her experience in educational leadership, focusing on lessons learned from successes and failures and inviting the participants to do the same in relation to the leadership roles they have had and the role models they are inspired by.
On this day, we will focus on the main leadership styles and on what makes an educational leader different from a leader in other fields. We will then identify the essential knowledge and competencies an educational leader must have to face contemporary challenges. We will also address the important role that feedback has on effective leadership and discuss the language of effective feedback.

Acquiring academic
language (and subject
matter knowledge) the easy
(and pleasant) way: self-selected
pleasure reading
Studies in first language development show that those who read more (fiction!) have superior language development (including academic language), more knowledge of history and science, and more empathy for others. There is growing evidence that much of this is true of second language and heritage language development. The problem: lack of access to interesting and comprehensible reading material.
