Intertwined: how to integrate skills in your lessons

When we use language to communicate with others, the primary skills of listening, speaking, writing and reading are often interwoven. Why should they be taught separately in the classroom, then? By integrating skills in our lessons, we prepare our learners for the challenges they are bound to face in real life and also encourage them to use language as a real tool for communication.

Bruno Albuquerque In ELT with vast experience teaching primary and secondary learners, adults, and teachers across all proficiency levels. Multi-skilled professional who works as teacher, trainer, speaker, author and editor of teaching materials, and course designer. Educational consultant at Troika, President of BRAZ-TESOL São Paulo and member of the BRAZ-TESOL national advisory board. Bruno has a BA in Languages and holds the ECPE, CELTA, DELTA M1, and the Cambridge Train the Trainer.

Lygia Leite has a degree in Social Sciences (USP). She is a CPE, Bullats, CELTA, ICELT and DELTA - Module 1 holder. She’s been working as an ELT professional for over 10 years and has worked at language institutes such as Wizard, Cultura Inglesa and Centro Britânico. Throughout her career she has taught different levels and age groups, apart from acting as a coach, mentor and coordinator.
